The Cutter Morning Star School District, located east of Hot Springs on Hwy. 70 consists of an elementary school (Pre-K—6) and high school (7—12).  Part of the district lies within the city and part outside.  The district’s boundaries are within Garland County and are adjacent to the Hot Springs, Lakeside, Fountain Lake and Benton school districts. 

Enrollment has increased and is currently 720.  Projections show that Hot Springs will experience growth toward the east, so Cutter Morning Star expects a continued increase.  Statistics show that over 75 percent of each graduating class has been attending the district for five years or more – a good indicator of community stability. 

Over the last seven years the district has remodeled and constructed much of the campus.  They have also taken great strides in the technology area, adding computer labs in the elementary and the high school, setting up a computerized library operation and connecting to the statewide school computer network.

Classroom instruction centers on statewide guidelines and students needs and smaller classes allow more time for student’s needs.  Arkansas Business & Economic Review showed the students in the top 15 percent in Arkansas in math and literacy scores.

Fountain Lake School District

The Fountain Lake School District serves an area of 185 square miles and is located north and east of the city of Hot Springs.  It operates as an independent district and educates students from K-12 grade.

The district believes that a strong foundation in academic excellence can be maintained through technology, highly qualified educators, a rigorous curriculum of studies, and diverse extra-curricular activities.  Instructional software programs are used to supplement the curriculum at all grade levels.  Individual and whole group instruction are available in four labs, four mobile labs, and multimedia centers which are all connected to the district optic network.  Advanced placement courses are offered by certified instructors with approved syllabi.  These courses include English, history, science, mathematics, art, and music theory.  The fine arts department has been recognized for outstanding achievements in art.  It also boasts an award winning band and choir program.

In addition, the school offers electives in EAST lab, foreign languages, Journalism, G.T., and vocational studies.  The district also provides students the opportunity to participate in a variety of clubs and organizations during and after school.

Jessieville School District

Serving approximately 900 students Pre-School – 12th grades, Jessieville School district began a rich history of excellence in 1937.  Today the district, nestled in the Ouachita Mountains, serve students in a 203 square mile radius with up-to-date facilities including science and computer labs and a 1200 seat sports complex. 

With a student –staff ratio of 7-1, the district has consistently performed above the state average on standardized tests.  The needs of all students are met through gifted and talented programs, remediation classes, vocational/technical programs, and special education services.  Art and music are offered at all grade levels and four computer labs plus a Distance Learning Lab and an East lab providing technology training K-12.  Over 200 community volunteers work with Jessieville students through the Tutoring Center and in classrooms each year. 

The ASCENT after-school program also provides enrichment and academic assistance to our 5-K students.  High school students can earn as many as 21 college hours though concurrent and AP courses at Jessieville. 

Athletically, Jessieville has had conference/district/state championships in football, basketball, track, baseball, golf and tennis.  In 2006 Jessieville won the state 2A football championship.  Over 80% of Jessieville’s 6th - 12th grade students are involved in a sport and/or other extra-curricular programs such as FCA, Cheerleading, Honor Society, Choir, Band, FBLA, Chess, Destination Imagination, Bowling, Quiz Bowl, Drama and Web Design.

Lake Hamilton School District

The Lake Hamilton School District is located west of the city of Hot Springs in Pearcy, Arkansas on Hwy. 70 West.  It is the largest district in Garland County housing six campuses K-12, all located in one geographical area.  In a beautiful rural area, the District provides a safe and clean, inviting environment.

LHSD fosters a tradition of academic excellence giving every student the opportunity to achieve and reach their full potential.  LHSD has the largest number of National Bards Certified Teachers in Garland County. LHSD is ranked academically in the top 18 schools in Arkansas by the Arkansas Policy Foundation.  A rich curriculum and professional instruction is available to meet the needs of all students.

LHSD offers excellent programs in the fine arts. The Fine Arts includes a comprehensive range of Visual Art, Drama, Choral and Instrumental Music.  The District is recognized as having one of the strongest band programs in the state.

The Lakeside School District is one of seven K-12 independent school districts in Garland County.  The district serves an area of 61 square miles and is located around the city of Hot Springs, which supports a population of approximately 40,000.  Much of the district surrounds Lakes Hamilton and Catherine.  The area is ideal for recreational camping and water sports.  The newly-expanded Hot Springs Convention Center and the Garland County Community College contribute to educational and cultural activities.
Lakeside School District is proud, once again, to be named one of the top ten school districts in the state of Arkansas.  Our district was ranked fourth and chosen for the 2006-07 Golden Apple Award, based on scores from state-mandated testing.  On these tests, Lakeside scores are higher in every grade than state averages.  As well, in the high school, ACT scores are higher than both state and national averages.  The district is ranked first among all 5A school districts in the state.


Lakeside has also been honored with three national awards in the past two years.  The "Just For Kids Award" was presented to both Lakeside Junior HIgh and Lakeside Middle School by the National Center of Educational Accountability.  Our district was also awarded the "What Parents Want Award", which is given to only 16% of the nation's 15,573 school districts.

Mountain Pine School District

Mountain Pine School District (K-12) referred to by some in higher education as the “hidden gem of Garland County,” is located in the Ouachita Mountains and on the banks of Lakes Hamilton and Ouachita.

The District’s faculty and staff provide high quality and varied educational opportunities to approximately 630 students. The district offers a relatively low pupil to teacher ratio with individualized and personalized instruction all students. Of the current 58 certified staff members, 22 have Masters and two have a Doctorate.

Mountain Pine students regularly exceed the state average on mandated test scores.  Remediation programs during and after school are available for students with deficient areas. Advanced placement and college credit classes are included in the high school curriculum, while the elementary gifted and talented program has been recognized throughout the region.      

Mountain Pine offers students, parents and community members the opportunity to be actively involved. The Booster Club and Parent Teacher Organization are extremely active and have fundraisers to assist students.

The Hot Springs Rehabilitation Center (HSRC) is a component of Arkansas Rehabilitation Services (ARS) that consists of two sections, the Hot Springs Rehabilitation Center Hospital and the Arkansas Career Training Institute (ACTI).

As a comprehensive rehabilitation center, HSRC offers programs in evaluation assessment, vocational adjustment, employability skills training, medical services, vocational training, counseling and support services such as recreation, placement and adult basic education.  Any student seeking enrollment must be sponsored by an Arkansas Rehabilitation Services Field Office.  Vocational training programs include auto collision repair, auto parts man, auto maintenance tech, building trades, business education, certified nursing attendant, cosmetology, environmental system services, food services, marketing & sales, printing, small engine repair, welding, etc.   All programs are ongoing in nature and the length of each course is based on students meeting specified educational and physical qualifications. 

HIGHER EDUCATION

National Park Community College

National Park Community College, nestled in the Ouachita Mountains, located in Mid-America Park, just outside Hot Springs city limits. 

NPCC averages approximately 3,000 credit students per semester enrolled in college courses blending liberal arts with occupational education to prepare students to enter the workforce or transfer to a four-year institution. Over 2,000 students a year also enroll in a wide range of non-credit and continuing education services provided by the Community Services/Continuing Education Program and Corporate Training Division. These include customized workforce training for business and industry, on-site courses for the hospitality and tourism industry, on campus computer classes, online classes, and various professional development workshops. 

The National Park Technology Center is a secondary area career and technology center that serves public schools in the Garland County area, available to junior and senior high students. Program offerings are two years in length and second year students have the opportunity to participate in job shadowing and apprenticeship activities. Instruction in seven areas offered by the center prepares students for entry-level employment and provides the foundation for further education. 

As a comprehensive community college, NPCC offers a broad general education curriculum and support services for all students as a basis for transfer, further study, professional specialization, and personal enrichment; pre-college coursework to prepare students for academic success; a variety of technical and professional programs to prepare students for career experiences; continuing education and workforce training opportunities to meet community needs and personal interests.  NPCC's academic programs are designed for students who plan to earn a two-year Associate Degree or the one-year Technical Certificate leading to employment, as well as for those who plan to transfer to four-year colleges and universities.
