St. John's Catholic School Tree DedicationSt. John's Catholic School-Hot Springs, AR and the Arkansas Forestry Commission, held a special tree planting ceremony to provide shade to children in order to help shield them from the sun to reduce the risk of skin cancer. Mayor Pat McCabe spoke and cut the ceremonial ribbon. Students of all ages recited poems, sang songs, and spoke on the importance of trees. According the the American Cancer Society, it is especially important to limit sun exposure in children because those who are severely sunburned when they are young have a significantly increased risk later in life of developing the most serious form of skin cancer, malignant melanoma.
